Musik bewegt, sensibilisiert und stärkt Kinder für ihren Lebensweg.
Die Phila Combined Primary Schule liegt in der ärmlichen Region des Townships Umlazi in Durban und zeigte sich in der Vergangenheit überaus ambitioniert, jedes Kind intensiv zu fördern. Insbesondere im musikalischen Bereich sticht die Schule mit ihrem Engagement heraus. Ihre Schüler gewinnen jährlich eine beachtliche Anzahl an Auszeichnungen bei Wettbewerben.
Es uns ein Anliegen, dieses Talent zu unterstützen. Wir arbeiten seit 2016 im Projekt ‚Pro Phila Musik‘ daran, die Teilnahme der Schule an schulischen Musik-, Gesangs-, und traditionellen Kulturwettbewerben sicherzustellen, zu intensivieren sowie eine geeignete Ausstattung der Schule zu ermöglichen.
Das Projekt ‚Pro Phila Musik‘ strebt an:
- das Eigenengagement der Schule im musikalischen Bereich zu stärken und die Teilnahme jedes Schülers an schulischen Wettbewerben sicherzustellen.
- in Deutschland gesammelte Musikinstrumente zu überführen und so Musikunterricht und Übungseinheiten für Kinder, die Wettbewerbe mitgehen, zu ermöglichen.
- die Schule bei der Suche nach geeigneten Lehrpersonal zu unterstützen. Wir aktivieren unser Netzwerk an Musikern in Südafrika, um Freiwillige oder sogar Lehrpersonal zu finden.
- die Infrastruktur der Schule an Anforderungen der musikalische Bildung anzupassen.
Erste Schritte
Den Schüler/innen bleibt die Teilnahme an schulischen Wettbewerben ohne Schuluniform und Schulschuhe verwehrt. Aus diese Grund leihen sich Schulen untereinander Material. Leider reichte dies regelmäßig nicht aus, um allen Schülern eine Teilnahme sicherzustellen. Insbesondere Schul-Schuhe stellten ich nach Gesprächen mit der Schule und den Schülern als limitierender Faktor heraus. Im Jahre 2019 spendeten wir deshalb 150 besonders bedürftigen Schülern der Phila Schule Schul-Schuhe, um Ihnen die Teilnahme an Wettbewerben in Zukunft zu ermöglichen.
Wie unsere Zusammenarbeit begann
Bekannt ist uns die Phila Combined Primary School durch Vorstands- und Gründungsmitglied Balungile Gumede. Sie hat diese Schule selbst als junges Mädchen besucht. Ihre musikalische Erstausbildung basiert in erster Linie auf der guten Förderung, die Sie hier genießen durfte. Heute, als erfolgreiche Musical-Darstellerin beim ‚König der Löwen‘ in Hamburg blickt sie zurück:

The Phila Combined Primary School is located in the poor region of the township of Umlazi in Durban and in the past has shown itself to be extremely ambitious in providing intensive support for each child. Especially in the musical area the school stands out with its commitment. Its students win a considerable number of awards in competitions every year.
It is our concern to support this talent. Since 2016, we have been working on the project ‚Pro Phila Musik‘ to ensure and intensify the school’s participation in music, singing and traditional cultural competitions and to provide the school with appropriate equipment.
The project ‚Pro Phila Musik‘ seeks to
to strengthen the school’s own commitment to music and to ensure the participation of every student in school competitions.
to transfer musical instruments collected in Germany and thus make music lessons and practice units for children who take part in competitions possible.
to support the school in finding suitable teaching staff. We activate our network of musicians in South Africa to find volunteers or even teaching staff.
to adapt the infrastructure of the school to the requirements of music education.
First steps
Students are not allowed to participate in school competitions without school uniforms and school shoes. For this reason schools borrow material from each other. Unfortunately, this was regularly not enough to ensure that all pupils could participate. After discussions with the school and the students, I found out that school shoes in particular are a limiting factor. In 2019, we therefore donated school shoes to 150 particularly needy students of the Phila Schule to enable them to participate in competitions in the future.
How our collaboration began
The Phila Primary School is known to us through its co-founder Balungile Gumede. She herself attended this school as a young girl. Her initial musical education is primarily based on the good support she was able to enjoy here. Today, as a successful musical actress in the ‚The Lion King‘ in Hamburg, she looks back:
